The Demo Room is the place to be to see a hands-on demonstration of a company’s product or service. Each session is 45-minutes and is communication accessible with the use of CART and hearing loop system.

IBM - Enterprise Captioning and Transcription in the Cloud

Presenter:
Peter Fay, Advocacy and Outreach Program Manager

Summary:
The IBM Human Ability and Accessibility Center has invested years of research into developing real-time and post-production transcription and captioning technologies. In this live demonstration, you will see how IBM's captioning technology that makes it simple to caption all of your video and audio content so that is accessible by those who are deaf or have hearing loss. IBM Research is also investing in making real-time captioning available in enterprise audio and video conferencing systems.

This seminar is designed for adults and parents of children with hearing loss. Additionally, the seminar will offer a demonstration of valuable resources to support your journey to better hearing. Time will be provided for chatting with other attendees, recipients of ClearVoice and speaking directly with manufacturer representatives.

MED-EL – Hands on Hearing: Get More Out of Your Hearing Device with the Tools of the Trade

Summary:
Cochlear implant technology has opened up a new world of hearing and improved the quality of life for many people. As an added bonus, there is technology available that can improve personal listening experiences even further. Often called assistive listening devices, these “tools” are becoming popular accessories for people with hearing loss by providing enhanced hearing experiences in a wide variety of ways:

  • Enjoy a concert, performance, or seminar as if the speaker was right next to you.
  • Engage in a quieter, more personal hearing experience when you’re watching TV or listening to your iPod.
  • Connect to your telephone to provide a clearer listening experience
  • Learn about more tips and tricks that may help you get the most out of your hearing device.

Hands-On Hearing workshops are designed to educate and inform attendees on how assistive technology can help them. A variety of listening accessories will be available for attendees to experiment with.

Oticon - Maintaining Connections with Family and Friends

Summary:
Staying connected in today’s world is more important to most hearing aid users and their families. We use many electronic devices to maintain these connections. It has been difficult for people with hearing loss to use these devices as easily as those with normal hearing such as the telephone and listening to the TV. Oticon ConnectLine overcomes those obstacles as well as the use of an FM system and provides connections for life.

Come learn about available options for hearing in both ears using hearing aids and cochlear implants or two cochlear implants. Discover how cochlear implants are covered by most private insurance policies as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Learn from an audiologist and cochlear implant user’s perspective how to know which option is best for you. Get answers to your questions from panel members using various hearing options at the end of the session.

Center for Hearing Loss Help/Contacta, Inc. - Install Your Own Home Loop System with Confidence

Presenter:
Neil Bauman, Ph.D., Director, Center for Hearing Loss Help

Summary:
This demonstration session, taught by a Univox home loop systems dealer, will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to install your own home loop system. You will see how easy it is to loop a room, or just use a loop pad, in order to clearly hear your TV. You will also learn common pitfalls to avoid. Dr. Bauman will be glad to answer any of your looping questions.
