HLAA, TDI and Consumer Groups Respond to FCC’s IP CTS Order

HLAA, TDI, and other consumer organizations filed a Petition for Stay on September 30, 2013. Our Petition requests the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) put a hold on implementation of one section of their Internet Protocol Captioned Telephone Services (IP CTS) Order that requires all users to pay a minimum of $75 for the captioned telephones. See our Petition.

HLAA Receives $50,000 Hearing Assistive Technology Training Grant from the CEA Foundation

The CEA Foundation has made a grant of $50,000 to the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) to fund a hands-on, train-the-trainer program on hearing assistive and emerging technologies for consumers with hearing loss. This grant aligns with the CEA Foundation’s mission to link seniors and people with disabilities with technologies to enhance their lives.

HLAA Re-Appointed to FCC’s Consumer Advisory Committee

HLAA received a letter from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski inviting us once again to serve as a voting member of the FCC’s Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) until the charter ends in October 2014.

HLAA and 46 Organizations Urge Public Interest-Oriented Leadership at FCC

Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) signed onto a letter penned by Common Cause and signed by 46 allied organizations calling on President Obama to appoint to the Federal Communications Commission commissioners who will uphold consumer protection in telecommunications, promote a diverse and local media ecosystem, and foster universal connectivity to the open Internet.

Two commissioners, Chairman Julius Genachowski and Robert McDowell, have recently announced their departures from the FCC.
